Conceived and created by Judy Craymer, the musical MAMMA MIA! is inspired by the story-telling magic of ABBA's timeless songs. This funny tale of family and friendship unfolds on a Greek island paradise where on the eve of her wedding, a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.
With music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, MAMMA MIA! is written by Catherine Johnson and directed by Phyllida Lloyd. MAMMA MIA! is choreographed by Anthony Van Laast, with production design by Mark Thompson, lighting design by Howard Harrison, sound design by Andrew Bruce and Bobby Aitken, and musical supervision, additional material and arrangements by Martin Koch. MAMMA MIA! is produced by Judy Craymer, Richard East and Björn Ulvaeus for Littlestar in association with Universal.
MAMMA MIA! has been seen by over 65 million people around the world in more than 440 major cities. Current MAMMA MIA! productions include London, Royal Caribbean International® and UK, North American, Korean and Spanish Tours. The first-ever UK Tour opened in March 2016 in Bristol before visiting Manchester, Nottingham, Birmingham, Southampton and Cardiff. It will continue on to Edinburgh, Plymouth, Norwich, Newcastle and beyond, with further dates to be announced. In 2011, MAMMA MIA! became the first, first-class, Mandarin speaking production of a western musical in China when it opened in Shanghai.
